Man Ray was a young American photographer/artist from Philadelphia who met Marcel Duchamp in 1915 and was so impressed by DaDa that he moved to Paris after WWI ended. He joined the Surrealists movement while working as a professional photographer and developed new darkroom effects such as studio setups with moving lights, beams of light, solarization, the reversal of tonal complexities, distortion, multiple exposures, and cameraless prints that he called rayographs.
